When we went camping this summer, we saw an outdoor movie called “Soulsurfer”.
Even though the movie was designed to appear to broad audiences, including kids, which were plenty at the camping site, and has some cheesy elements to it, there were a couple of things that stuck with me and made me remember it vividly.
First, of course, is the ode to perseverance and following your dream despite the most brutal circumstances. So just watch it if you are not familiar with the Bethany Hamilton’s story.
And second, the backdrop – stunningly beautiful imagery of Hawaii, surfing, waves and summer. Watching swirling water on screen made me actually feel the saltiness and smell of the ocean, arguably the most powerful force on earth.
I also thought that the actress who played the main character was perfectly cast and gave a great performance. Recommended – watch it, preferable outdoors on a balmy summer night.
